Louisiana’s medical marijuana program will soon be able to offer smokable cannabis to patients under a bill passed Wednesday by lawmakers trying to give the state’s residents cheaper options to alleviate their medical conditions.
The legislation was sent to the governor’s desk with a 76-17 vote. Gov. Edwards has stated he will sign the legislation into law.
Currently, medical cannabis may be distributed in liquids, topical applications, inhalers and edible gummies. The expansion to a smokable form will start in January.
