UPDATE: Mask Mandate Partially Lifted

Masks aren’t completely going away, but Louisiana may be seeing its first real sign of the return to normal. Gov. John Bel Edwards made the announcement yesterday that masks would still be required in state buildings, on public transit, for schools K-12 as well as universities, and at health care facilities licensed by the Louisiana Department of Health. Private businesses will now be able to make that call; so restaurants, retails stores, salons, etc may or may not require mask wearing.

Outdoor attendance restrictions have been lifted – effective today, with the proclamation also allowing indoor events to have the choice between 75% capacity(with social distancing practices) or 100% capacity (requiring masks). This would be the new standard for sporting events, theater or conference events, etc.

The changes come in light of a decrease in Covid numbers since vaccinations began. So far, about 25% of Louisiana has been vaccinated.
